One of the primitive tribal communities in Chhattisgarh is the Gond community. The Madai Festival is celebrated by people belonging to the Gond community with a lot of interest and excitement.Madai’s is another colourful festival of the tribals is celebrated on different days in different tribal villages. Bastar King is invited to offer prayers to the village deity.
There are several customs which are observed when the Festival of Madai is celebrated. A goat is sacrificed in honor of the tribal gods. This ritual takes place under a sacred tree. Then amidst the beating of drums and bells, the goat is taken around the whole village.
A procession of the local gods in which a large number of tribal people participate is the initiation ceremony of the festival. They devotedly offer their prayers and then all the fun and frolic starts.
