The forest is occupied by different species such as tigers, leopards, sloth bears, chitals, sambars, and nilgais, along with some of the resident and migratory birds including the chousingha and the crested serpent eagle. The Sanctuary is also linked to Veer Surendra Sai who was a freedom fighter and sought refuge in this dense forest to fight guerilla wars against the British. The best time to visit is from Oct to March.
